Our trip to Rebeca’s Nurse Homestead!!!
Our trip was amazing.Rebeca was an average person who was accused of being a witch and in ancient times that was a bad accusement. When we got there we were splitted into groups, each group had a section. Lucky for my group we had the chance of digging in back. Back then they through all the garbage in back. We have good oppertunity of finding something. We are going back. My group reached gravel level, but i want to go deeper!!!
The Rebecca Nurse Homestead
On Saturday, Dig This! went to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead in Danvers, MA. Rebecca Nurse was one of the oldest accused witches, during the Salem Witch Trials Hysteria. Her house is now the home of an archaeological excavation.
At the property, we got to try digging ourselves. I got to experience digging in the backyard, where all the trash was thrown away. In the spot we found glass, charcoal, chicken bones, pieces of ceramics, and surprisingly a peanut (that I found). The archaeologists thought it could have been 100 years old. Another important discovery that one of my classmates found was a huge piece of charcoal.
While we were digging, we got to do some of the things archaeologists do at excavations, such has digging ten centimeters, leveling and filtering artifacts and nature facts from rocks and dirt. We also listened to stories about other excavations, which were told to us by the young archaeologists. I also enjoyed the gift shop. In the gift shop, I purchased many interesting things.
In conclusion, I would like to share that i thought this was a positive experience. The day was very sucessful and I am looking forward to going back there.

Rebecca Nurse Homestead

On Saturday July 12, we had our first real experience of digging in Dig This. After arriving at the huge field of Rebecca Nurse Homestead, we jumped out of the cars with excitement. After hearing an introduction and learning that this are has been owned by a bishop that was one of the first from Salem that was given private property. This ground was later owned by a woman called Rebecca Nurse who was killed during the Witch Trial. Read more »
My Trip to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead (1)
My trip to Rebecca Nurse Homestead for the first time out of 4 was great, I learned a lot about archaeology and about Rebecca Nurse. My favorite part of the trip was how we dug old pieces of foundation of an old house up. We found nails, brick, coal, and even some ceramic. Danielle, our supervisor was very nice and taught me a lot about all the pieces we found and more about the Rebecca Nurse Homestead. I can not wait to go back there next Saturday for my second dig there. I hope to find some more interesting stuff that indicated Mr. Bishop living there and other evidence that Rebecca Nurse was buried there. Great trip and I would defiantly come back on a vacation if I could! Read more »
Finished Product.
Today (well yesterday, but I want it to seem like today) we went to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead in Danvers. It’s basically this really huge place with a few small buildings in it. It’s supposedly the place where Rebecca Nurse, the oldest victim of the Salem Witch Trials, lived.
So basically, we get there, and we can see some really old buildings to our right, and a blue tent in front of us. We walk over, and Professor Hamilton explain the history of the site. He tells us that it used to be land belonging to Indigenous people, but then given by the crown of England to this Bishop. Kinda rude. Read more »
My Trip To The Rebecca Nurse Homestead Dig
My Trip to the Rebecca Nurse Homestead Dig
It was a Saturday in the summer, July 12, 2008 to be exact. I was excited because today was the day the Phillips Academy Summer Session was taking our class to a dig site. The dig site was not that far away. It happened to be in Danvers, which used to be part of Salem. The site was named after a famous girl from a long time ago. Actually, she was accused of being a witch. She was found innocent by the trial, but was hung anyway. She was baptized February 21, 1621. She was the daughter of William Towne. Read more »
